Louisiana Garden Club 2010 Fall President’s Report
Our garden club continues our tradition of planting the 24 planters we purchased for our downtown businesses. Christmas trees are set in the month of December and each business decorates their own. From April through a first freeze, each is planted with a different assortment of flowers.
Our historic library now has a beautiful “Miss Lucille” garden in memory of our beloved Lucille Creamer, a garden club charter member of 1939.
We’ve had an eclectic year of meetings. A plant and seed exchange, tours of 2 separate nursery’s, and outstanding gardens, a very noisy but fun of pounding of various leaves and flowers onto different materials such as muslin, a carry in lunch made (if possible) with edible flowers. We all survived so I assume we did well with the edible part. We also had a lovely garden tea party - not a proper tea - Think Ricky Nelson more than Queen Elizabeth.
As I write this, we are in jeopardy of loosing 2 of our 4 built-up planters down at our beautiful riverside. We are fighting people who more or less want to “pave paradise and put up a parking lot!”
Sincerely yours,
Judy Allely, 2009 - 2011 President
